So we’re here, now what?

October 24th, 2007 by arielle

This is the first of what promises to be many, many posts from inside the box. We’re in here. It kind of rules. It’s been a little rainy and cool, so the temperature in the windows is actually quite pleasant, if not a little chilly.

We’ve only been in here a short while now (since 8 am. I woke up at 7 am to get ready. Brian asked me when the last time I woke up that early was. I had no answer for him.) but people are already coming by. We know some of them, which is to be expected. But we also don’t know some of them, and it looks like they’ve come just to see us. We already have items in our drop box. I am excited.

Now, some pictures:

Some early observations: it didn’t take much to make that window space look like mine. It is almost uncanny how much it looks like any one of my rooms in New York: the same tiny furniture, the same yellow bedding and quilt. I’ve got my Raiders homages just up front, Damien’s paper bear, my Mt. Eerie art. That’s all it takes, I suppose. This window is now linked with every other place I’ve ever lived. Weird.

Also, I expected that there would be a lot of feeling awkward about being looked at, but it’s really not so strange. It feels as much like we are watching everybody else as the reverse. We’re mutual voyeurs.

And one other thing: if you’re not here to participate, you can send us an emailed drop box submission: photo, note, anything. Marshall Lee was the first to send one, with a computer drawing. We’re down for anything, but the prompt we have up for today is “something broken.” In the words of Big Boi, “go head and marinate on that.”
