Small packages

September 4th, 2007 by arielle

I have been working on the apocalyptic anagram sketchbook. It feels good to have a goal, something to work towards, and it is especially comforting that there is a place for the finished project to go. However, I can’t shake the feeling that what I am doing lacks gravity and consequence. Of course, not everything has to be heavy and serious and epic, but it does unnerve me to see all of my hard work fit snugly in a diminutive 3.5″x 5.5″ package, bound so it is only possible to see one frivolous page at a time. It makes me feel like I am simply treading water. Either way, I cannot stop now; the show is around the corner, and I should finish what I have begun. Besides, I am still having fun, when I can shut off the saddest parts of my brain and let myself work.

I will share the first six pages with you:

I’ve got another half dozen more still in the works: a too hot for the blog anagram for “Mayan Calendar” (make your own and try to figure out what it is…I’ll give you a hint: it has something to do with your tushie.) Also, “Overpopulation” has become “A Pop Revolution,” with a solvent transfer painting of Michael Jackson circa Dangerous to illustrate.
